Human society is built through communication
Everywhere in the world people have a basic need to communicate, whether this is with neighbours down the road or friends and family on the other side of the country. We have experience of village life in developing countries and tourist campsites in wildlife reserves. We have studied flooded and disaster-struck cities and mountain trekking trails. In all these places we could see that something very important was missing: an operational infrastructure for mobile communications. This led to our vision of mobile devices for calls and texting, and more specifically wireless communication over peer-to-peer networks.
Enter TerraNet
The company was formed in 2004, and our story so far has taken us from a vision to an established technology platform. We have journeyed through research and development, trials, patent work and prototypes - and now we are just about to break through with consumer product releases, together with selected partners. During this process, we discovered that TerraNet’s technology blueprint for free calls and texting could work in many different devices - ranging from cheap mobile phones used in the university campus environment, to the handheld organisers commonly run on a company network. Eventually, it became clear that TerraNet technology could be used as a long-range complement to WiFi VoIP.
Our location means business
TerraNet benefits greatly from having established its base in the hotbed atmosphere of research and innovation known as Ideon Science Park in the city of Lund, Sweden. Being a stone’s throw from Lund Institute of Technology (LTH), we are in close proximity to thousands of hard working students and researchers who have developed a reputation as world leaders in the latest disciplines in IT, electronics, mechanics and computer sciences. Our headquarters are surrounded by hundreds of other high-tech companies, ranging from young start-up ventures to some of the best known and fastest growing companies in Scandinavia. Our location - close to Malmö and Copenhagen and right between the two international airports - is a renowned meeting place for ideas and innovation, excellent mentorship and venture capital.
