MobileActive at eCampaign Forum and 3GSM Congress 2006
MobileActives have been busy at a number of events and gatherings. Members of the network have been seen at the eCampaign Forum in Oxford where leading ecampaigners from organizations such as Oxfam, Amnesty International, Unicef, and others came together to discuss the state of e-campaigns, engagement, and mobilization. Of course, mobile activism was a topic that weaved through the conversation, especially so since mobile phone use in the UK and other parts of Europe is so pervasive and advanced.
In several sessions, participants discussed the use of textingin campaigns to date and the opportunities and challenges. Karina from Oxfam UK who is one of the more savvy and experienced activivists experimenting with SMS and texting as part of the campaigns that she runs, described some of the organizational challenges that often prevent or curtail innovation in large organizations. We will feature an interview with her here shortly.
MobileActives will also be at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona in February and will report here on the latest in the mobile industry applicable to civil society and social change and activism. We are looking forward to featuring some interesting innovations and ideas here.
